Dr. Irini Yacoub Joins the New York Proton Center

New York, NY – July 22, 2024 — The New York Proton Center (NYPC) announced today that Dr. Irini Yacoub, a highly credentialed radiation oncologist specializing in head and neck and central nervous system cancers, will join the organization as its newest physician. Her arrival comes as the NYPC, one of the busiest proton centers in the world, prepares to celebrate five years in operation and 5,000 patients treated.

Dr. Yacoub joins NYPC following a brachytherapy fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She completed her residency in radiation oncology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where she served as chief resident, and she received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate School of Medicine.

Dr. Yacoub is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, was named Kings County (N.Y.) Resident of the Year in 2022, and SUNY Downstate Resident Advocate of the Year in 2021. She also received the prestigious Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award from the Radiological Society of North America in 2019.
